Tuesday, 24 May, Bellagio

Food of the day: Burrata - delightful cheese entree at local fishing family restaurant, Silvio's. Descriptions from Wikipedia - Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese, made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella while the inside contains both mozzarella and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. It is usually served fresh, at room temperature. The name "burrata" means "buttered" in Italian.

Word of the day: Uscita - exits from the motorway with lots of funny names

Picked up our hire car and navigated the crazy streets of Milan, then eventually the even crazier narrow, winding roads along Lake Como. Rounding corners wondering if there will be room to pass the oncoming traffic, trying to avoid the numerous cyclists. Thankful to arrive at Hotel Miralago in Bellagio in one piece. Unpacked the bikes and went for a short spin - adding to the number of cyclists for motorists to avoid!

Bellagio is one of the many picturesque towns situated on lovely Lake Como. We had a view over part of the lake from our balcony - a very pleasant spot to sit and watch the sun go down and the lights start twinkling.

Dinner at Silvio's, a Bellagio institution we were told, and a fine experience, apart from the odd cigarette smoker. There are plenty of those in Italy in the outside areas of restaurants and cafes.
